Digital Surgery Management

We digitalised the scheduling and administration of appointments of surgeries for an ophthalmic clinic “Augenklinik am Neumarkt” in Cologne. The first impression: Not a big challenge. Upon closer inspection: A complex IT project. Existing workflows and dated IT systems had to be incorporated. We developed an impressive solution.

The assignment and administration of appointments of surgeries needed to be digitalised. Although the eye clinic has been working with the medical software Medistar for years, it did not include an adequate solution to schedule appointments. We developed an extension for Medistar and added a customised surgery management tool.

Optimal Schedule

The former excel-keep-appointments-in-mind solution has been replaced with a smart software, which cooperates with Medistar. Since Medistar did not include an interface, we reconstructed functionalities by reverse engineering – a complex process.

We displayed the workflows of the clinic via web app, which interacted smoothly with the patientmanagement system Medistar and a calendar software. Available appointment slots are proposed automatically during scheduling. Patients, doctors and receptionists access all appointments at a glance. Doctors can edit appointments directly in the electronic health records of Medistar.

• Automatic scheduling with respect to the kind of surgery and responsible doctors
• Compilation of layout plans and protocols of surgeries via PDF
• Simple evaluation of available data (number of surgeries, amount of consumed material per surgery, etc.)

Our software links several components like calendar and patient management systems. The user interface is displayed in any common browser. This allows the application to be used comfortably and intuitively on any pc within the secured local network of the clinic. Controlling business processes via web – A new generation of software.

Pharo is a live programming and inspection tool, which gave us the opportunity to analyse and implement business processes in close collaboration with our client. Its dynamic nature enables a product, which tracks complex business processes while maintaining its flexibility.
