Together with the Academy of Public Health in Düsseldorf we built the ÖGD News app, which brings news and events from Germany's public health service to the people working in it.

Together with the Academy of Public Health in Düsseldorf we built the ÖGD News app, which brings news and events from Germany's public health service to the people working in it.
The starting point was a simple wish: every piece of news, every event and every press release from the Academy should reach staff in the public health service on their phones, without friction.

Straightforward to use
Working closely with the Academy we defined the requirements and user stories, and from those shaped a first concept for the app. On top of that came a design concept that put accessible, uncomplicated handling first.
Only after enough iteration — and once the interaction concept had proven itself — did we start development, and we finished the project within a few weeks.
The features
Accessible handling and an interface that explains itself were the point of the app. Among other things, we focused on:
- Several types of news item
- Marking events as favourites
- Push notifications for anything important
- Scheduling posts and events
- Accessibility
- A content management system of its own
What the platform takes care of
Underneath the app sits ApptiveGrid, our own platform. Here it acts as the content management system: the Academy's editors maintain news, events and press releases in the browser, schedule publication ahead of time and send out push notifications. External organisations submit content through forms, which are reviewed editorially before anything goes live.
User management, permissions, forms and reporting did not have to be built — they were already there. What was developed individually is the app itself. That is why the solution stood after a few weeks rather than after months.
A solution that fits your app project
Our news-app blueprint let us meet the client's expectations in a short project — and extend them with additions such as push notifications and a straightforward content management system.
The modular content management system makes maintaining, preparing and scheduling news for the public health service simple, and publishing it into the app seamless. A built-in form lets external institutions send new notices and events to the Academy's editorial team, which can then publish them onward without extra work.
